Tragic Passenger Vehicle Accident in Northeastern Brazil Claims 15 Lives
A long-distance bus traveling through north-eastern Brazil was involved in a serious accident, leaving 15 passengers dead, according to local officials.
Details of the Incident
The vehicle was transporting approximately thirty passengers when it veered off and slammed into a sand barrier, causing it to roll over. The number of wounded passengers taken to nearby hospitals is unclear.
The trip began in the state of Bahia and concluded in disaster in Saloá, located in the adjacent state of Pernambuco state.
How It Happened
Initial reports suggest that the bus operator lost command of the bus, crossing into the opposite lane and hitting boulders on the roadside. Subsequently, the driver returned to the correct lane but then collided with a sandbank, which led the vehicle to flip over.
The cause behind the crash is currently under investigation. The operator suffered minor injuries and tested negative for alcohol consumption.

A regional official stated that the administration is offering assistance for rescue efforts and victim identification. They remarked, "We are following the incident and sincerely regret the loss of lives, the harm and the suffering of all the affected families."

Last September, a vehicle with a football team overturned on a highway, causing 3 fatalities.
